RFIOp/m connections

Hello,

In my board based on DA14580, I have accidentally left the RFIOm pin floating instead of grounding it. Also, the inductor between RFIOp and ground is not populated. The RFIOp signal goes straight to the antenna. Could the BLE connectivity still work with these missing connections with sub optimal performance, or are those absolutely essential?

Regards,
Abhinay

Hi abhminaypatil,

Hi abhminaypatil,

If the RFIOm is not connected to ground two problems will happen:

  • The LNA and the PA will not be supplied as expected.
  • The impedance of the RF port will be different than expected.

The result would be an unexpected LNA and PA gain and a poorly matched antenna leading to less (in worst case no) range, even more if not using the inductor in order for the 58x RF port to be at 50 ohm.

Thanks MT_dialog
