Bluetooth rangefinding

We're considering purchasing the rangefinding development kit but have a couple questions:

  • What is the theretical maximum effective range of the rangefinding capabilities and on what does that depend?
  • Related question - how is the range and efficacy affected by the presence of foliage and/or snow?

谢谢你的问题在线和国米est in our WiRa solutions. Please find below some notes regarding WiRa range:

  • WiRa range is limited by the so-called wrapping distance.
    • This is 75 meters in current release. So, at 76 meters (75 +1) the reported distance will be 1 meter.
  • In practice you want to stay well within wrapping distance, especially in indoor environments.
    • So that longer reflected RF signal paths are not inadvertently reported as shortest detected path.
  • Practical indoor range for WiRa is less than 0.5 * wrapping distance
    • We suggest to use 30 meters range

Hello, thanks for the reply. Our use case is outdoors. It seems one could combine RSSI and WiRa to deal with the wrapping distance - in other words, beyond 75 meters the RSSI would tell you that. When the reported range jumps to 75 meters you would know this is the final approach. Does this make sense? Also, you didn't answer the question regarding foliage and snow. Do you have any data around that? Thanks again.
