Yes a master device can operate and preserve 6 simultanieus connections. The only available example for this kind of configuration is the external proximity monitor example. You can find the example under projects/target_apps/ble_examples/prox_monitor_ext for the fw that should be downloaded into the 580 and you can find the source code of the windows application under host_apps/windows/proximity/monitor. For some extra info you can have a look at the UM-B-010 document for more details regarding the proximity example in Integrated and External processor configuration.
