Current consumption

Hi Dialog Team,

I would like to know the current consumption by DA14580 during:
1. Advertising (GAP)
2. Sleep (after advertising)
3. Advertising (for pairing)
4. Pairing.
我想知道不同的components that are switched ON/OFF during the conditions mentioned above.

What is the difference in the working of the various sensors(SPI/RTC) etc during advertising and during pairing???

Thank you in advance,
Sam

Hi Sam,

Hi Sam,

are you looking for average power consumption or peak ? average also depends upoon advertising interval. Do you have either an expert or PRO kit ? It also depends upon SDK as latest SDK (3.0.8/3.0.10) has some power enhamcennts.

Peak current during RF Tx/Rx is also different to active current . The two sleep modes (extended adn sleep) are 1.2uA and 0..7uA typical.

The only way to measure true currents is to use a 6.5 digit DMM (to measure sub uA) . The exact average will depend upon advertising / connection intervals etc.. The Smart snippets power profiler tools is also very useful if oyu use the PRO or EXPERT kit to look at the average energy consumption where you can see the currents in the active/ tx&rx and sleep mode..

I want to know the value of

I want to know the peak current values. I have an expert kit. I am using SDK 3.0.6.

I want to calculate(theroretically) the maximum current consumed during advertising, pairing and sleep?

Current consumption during active mode and sleep mode?

What is the maximum current consumption by the DA14580 chip during advertising? What happens when it goes into sleep mode?
Thanking You,

Hi There, the best thing is

Hi There, the best thing is to measure it . The peak is defined in teh datasheet... but the simplest way to look is to

(a) use a project (e.g. proximity) and the power profiler in smart snippets to actually measure the peak current on your expert board (use SPI/UART connection when you run smart-snippets to enable this)

(b) use a high precision 6.5 digit DMM to measure the uA level sleep current when it goes into extended or deep sleep.

最大电流大约5 ma在Tx或Rx活动(whole chip, not just radio), and in extended sleep, its 1.2uA typ and <1uA typ in deep sleep.

Hi,

Hi,

I have measured the current values but I want to tabulate the maximum current consumed theoretically. What is the current consumed by the DA14580 during advertising and when it is paired? Is it 5mA?

Thanks

Hi, the peak current is just

Hi, the peak current is just under 5mA under any kind of radio activity : advertising events, connection events. Its only 5mA peak during RF activity - thats the same when its paired & connected or when its just advertising. The average current is depending upon the advertising interval / connection interval. When the device is active, but radio not in tx or rx, its few hundred uA... when its in sleep in teh 1.2uA / 0.7uA approx.. The average really depedns upon your application and how long you sleep / how frequently you wake to advertise / connect / move data. BR JE_Dialog

Hi Dialog Team,

Hi Dialog Team,

(ACT_RX)_BOOST BAT ||| battery supply current ||| Typical application with boost converter and receiver active ||| Typ : 13.4 mA ||| Max : 16mA

In page 146 of DA14580 datasheet, the above statement is given. What does this mean? If the maximum peak current consumption by Dialog 14580 is less than 5mA, then what are the above values? I am really confused. Please help.

The max radio current is

The max radio current is typically stated in BUCK mode - that is the battery current taken by the total device, in buck mode at 3V. If you using a boost converter, to boost up to 3V, then by physics your current is going to increase compared to buck. For example, in buck at 3V takes 5mA , then if you instead have a boost converter running from 1V (assume 100% efficiency), it will take 3x the current to delvier the current needed to the device (whicih runs at 3V). I am using a boost converter

I am using a boost converter to convert 1.5V (supply) to 1.8V. What shall be my battery current/ current consumed by Dialog?

Hi,

Hi,
I am using the Da14580 in boost mode. Does it damage the chip or DC-DC converter if I use 3V battery to power the chip in boost mode(VBAT1V pin)?
I have another question about DC-DC converter with the attach file. Is it work if I power chip in boost mode with 2V~2.35V? And what efficiency between then? Thanks.

Hi Liang Yun Hao,

Hi Liang Yun Hao,

You are not going to damage the chip or the DCDC if you are operating over boost mode in 3V but the efficiency is going to be less than 50%.

The DCDC converter in boost mode its not characterized for the voltage ranges that you mention as you see in the picture.

Thanks MT_dialog

Hi Liang Yun Hao,

Hi Liang Yun Hao,

As mentioned above there is no efficinecy characterization when the DCDC converter operates over the voltage range that you mention as the picture that you ve attached indicates as well. Using the Buck configuration the device wont operate and in boost mode its not characterized since i trust that it will be worse than 70%.
