I am a software guy, with very little hardware experience.
I am excited by BLE 5.1 and its location & distance functionality, using AoD & AoA.
My first thought it to have two devices, each with a display, and have them each display an arrow and a distance to the other, updating as the devices move. I have a few contacts would would be much more excited by this simple demo in their hands than by any amount of explanation from me. Just looking at such a thing, I am sure that they can take their domain knowledge and come up with several ideas for potentially marketable products.
Given my lack of hardware experience, can anyone suggest a battery powered dev board which I can use? No soldering, please, although plug & play is acceptable if the board does not have an on-board display (I am thinking HAT/shield).
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
嗨mawg,
Thanks for your question online. We expect to have ToF (Time-Of-Arrival) SW suitable for product development hopefully in April 2020. This SW will provide point-to-point distance measurements and can be run on standard development kits.
Thanks, PM_Dialog
Is it available yet?
If so, does it have, or can I easily attach (nos sodlering) a display?
嗨mawg,
Please checkout the SmartBond™ Wireless Ranging (WiRa) SDK that provides distance measurement on our BLE devices.
Applications: Social Distancing, Asset tracking, Indoor Positioning, Smart locks, Authentication (eg. for Mobile Payments)
Additionally, a Social Distancing Tag (SDT) reference application based on WiRa SDK is also provided. It combines WiRa SDK with RSSI measurement, BLE communication, datalogging and other functionalities uploaded into a single application.
