SPP \ UART usage in PAN1740

Hello,

Sorry in advance if these are rather newbie questions, but I'm trying to use the PAN1740 to collect UART data and relay it to my end-device using the SPP profile but have no idea where to start. I know the PAN1740 implements the DA14580, but I don't know what version it implements. Some documentation says that the DA14580-00 does not support UART emulation profiles, while the DA14580-01 does. How do I know what MCU is in the PAN1740? After this, how do I get the profile onto the DA14580 (I bought the PAN1740 USB dongles, so I think I can use the JLINK to program it).

Also, I'm trying to design the PCB that uses this PAN module, but I'm having trouble deciding what pins connect to what. I poked and probed around the USB board with a scope to verify any data transmission coming from the UART pins of the DIALOG while I was loading firmware using the Dialog Connection Manager software, and never noticed any data flowing across the UART lines (using the USB dongle schematic as a reference). Does this mean the JLink only flashes the DA14580-* via the SWD pins? Should I connect them to my other MCU to flash the device on system bootup since I can't program the OTP without buying another programmer?)

Thanks for all your help.
-Nate.

Hello Nater, I will direct

Hello Nater, I will direct your question to the team at Panasonic who will respond to you. I can confirm the PAN1740 uses the DA14580 IC.

Hello Nater,

Hello Nater,

yes, the MCU is flahed by JTAG on the dongle. Once it is flashed the UART and other ports can be configured.
More detail you can find in the description:

Best regards,
Ingo

Thanks guys,

Thanks guys,

So in my application I'm mounting these PAN modules (which implement the DA14580 IC). And because of the small footprint I wont be able to include the same programmer in my application (I think there would also be licensing concerns here), and I don't want to OTP program my PAN1740s/DA14580 because I want to be able to flash them with firmware updates on the fly. So in essence I will need to be able to flash a hex file (via the SWD protocol) onto the PAN module. Do you guys have the specification sheets for flashing the DA14580 via the SWD protocol?

Hi Nater,

Hi Nater,

you can also flash by the UART. Please refer to the AN-B-001. It describes the boot Interfaces.
SWD is not described as it is licensed by Segger and J-Link property to my understanding.

Patching over the air is described in AN-B-003.
Do I understand that you want to use the module in development mode (refer to chapter Functional Modes in Datasheet DS-1740)?
Why do you want to make FW updates?

At the end of the day please note that SPP is not a BT LE Profile, we will provide a proprietary SPP in the near future.

Hi,

Hi,
I'm also interested to have the SPP example. We bought the PAN1740 usb modules. I would like to use the PAN1740 like it's done in the "Connection Manager" software. By the way, could it be possible to have the "Connection manager" source code? We would have s starting point to use the PAN1740. We do not want to program the PAN1740 OTP (DA14580), we just want to use it and make it as a serial USB port.
Thanks a lot for your support.
